At the current time, Libya only has a few options for Internet connections.
Libya Telecom & Technology
LTT offers a number of different internet solutions for home and businesses. If you are looking for an internet in your home, you can either get a DLS or YMAX connection.
DSL – The DSL connection requires that you have a landline in your house. Currently the price is 20 LYD per month which gives you 20 GIG of data each month. DSL is fairly reliable in most parts of Tripoli.
YMAX – This is a good option for those people who move around. YMAX technology runs off of the cellular towers. The current price for YMAX is 30 LYD per month which gives you 15 GIG of data each month. The nice thing about YMAX is that it offers both USB sticks and Routers, depending on your need.
Business Internet – If your company is looking for a “serious” connection, LTT will work with you to create a business solution. This is can be very expensive, but it could be the option for what you are looking for.
There are a number of new companies that offer satellite internet connections. This option is quite expensive, however, you are paying for the reliability. Satellite connections are not dependent on LTT or any local service provider, but are hosted by a foreign company. Many of the hotels are using satellite internet options to make sure that their clients never lose internet.
For those looking for a simple solution. You might check out Libyana’s 3G service. It is very expensive, but can help you connect via your smartphone when you get stuck.
There are some new companies joining the market, but we are all waiting to see what they provide.
